YOGA FOR PREGNANCY (COMING SOON)

Preconception/ Yoga for Fertility (Resources and Classes) – Yoga helps regulate the parasympathetic nervous system and reduces circulating stress hormones which can negatively impact you as a person and your conception. A typical practice session includes specific postures (asanas) to support the pelvic floor, meditation, and breathing tactics to support the preparation of the body and mind for a successful fertility journey alongside alternative reproductive techniques (ART) or other paths for broadening your family.

Prenatal Classes – Yoga for the expectant mother and baby benefits physical and mental well-being.  These classes focus on postures to strengthen back muscles, flexibility in the hips and back, endurance, mother-baby connection, and breathing techniques to support mother and baby before and during birth.  The American Pregnancy Association shares, “A way to maintain a healthy mind and body is prenatal yoga because it focuses on poses for pregnant women, in order to increase strength and flexibility.” In addition, it can support a healthy labor process.

Postnatal Classes – It is just as important to take care of your mind and body before pregnancy, during pregnancy, and after birth. These classes help support the fourth trimester by continuing to gently strengthen the body, support milk production, guard against postpartum depression, and help maintain energy levels.

HAVE QUESTIONS?

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are you unsure what is the proper yoga practice or class for you? These FAQs can help!

These frequently asked questions will give you the information you need to understand our yoga services better.

  • What type of yoga do you practice?
The kind of yoga I practice is Hatha. Hatha is a branch of yoga that stands for “yoga force.” Hatha allows for slow and deliberate body movement in different yoga poses that challenge strength and flexibility. Simultaneously, there is a focus on relaxation, intention, and mindfulness during practice. It is a moving meditation focusing on the HA (the sun) and THA (the moon), the joining of opposites.
  • How should I prepare for a yoga class?
Bring an open mind to your yoga class, wear comfortable, non-restrictive clothing that allows you to stretch, and you should not eat a heavy meal 1-2 hours before practice. You should bring a bottle of water to class and a yoga mat.
  • What do I need for a virtual yoga class?
Your space should be well lit in a private place to practice, with a yoga strap or a towel, and you should have enough space to move around for different poses (asanas). You can choose to stay on camera or off based on your needs. However, it is essential to remember that if you are on camera, then it’s easier for me to provide guidance on poses for you.
  • What is yoga?
According to the Oxford dictionary, yoga is a Hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline widely practiced for health and relaxation reasons. This includes breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures.
  • Why are yoga terms in a different language sometimes?
The language of yoga is Sanskrit, the root of many Indian languages and one of the oldest human languages. Sanskrit is not spoken as a language but still lives on through things such as yoga pose names (asanas) and chants.
  • Do I really need a mat for yoga?
Yes, a mat allows for more comfort during practice when performing poses (asanas) and provides a softer impact for joints.
  • I’m not flexible; can I still do yoga?
Yes, yoga is for all levels of fitness and accessibility. Flexibility is relative, like other attributes. The goals of yoga are to balance the strength and flexibility that exists within all of us. Modifications are beneficial for all modalities. Virtually every yoga pose has a modification to meet the needs of students in their yoga journey. I share these during my classes and encourage students to explore them when they are comfortable.
  • What should I wear to do yoga?
You should wear comfortable clothes that you don’t feel restricted in. Examples to guide you are, stretchy athletic leggings, capris or shorts, yoga pants, and tank tops or t-shirts (preferably air-wicking material).
  • I’m not in the best shape; can I still do yoga?
Absolutely! Yoga provides a great workout and can be as gentle or strenuous as you need it to be. The most important thing to remember is that you need to listen to what your body needs. You will know when you can “go harder in the paint” or if you need to dial it back to be gentler in yourself.
  • What if I must cancel or reschedule my session?
Please review our Disclaimers & Policies page for more information on this topic.
